Coronavirus Update

19 March 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Re: Coronavirus – School Closure

Further to this evening’s announcement by the Government, the school will be closing from the end of the day on Friday 20 March 2020 until further notice.

Updates on the school reopening will be announced by the Government and our school website will be updated accordingly.

During the period of closure, we want to ensure all our children have access to resources that allow their learning to continue.  Our students are at the heart of everything that we do, and we want them to have access to the highest quality provision we can deliver during these challenging times.

The school will be open for key workers children which include NHS, emergency services and delivery drivers’ children as well as children who have a social worker or an EHCP.  If you fall into one of these categories and wish to avail of this educational provision, please can you make the school aware of this by emailing office@waterfront-that.org.uk or calling the school office.

For all other students we will be providing online learning opportunities.

Online Learning

Student work has been uploaded to Class Charts for which students already have access. If you have a problem accessing the work please email office@waterfront-that.org.uk for login details. Teachers will continue to upload work wherever possible. It will be helpful if you were to ask your child to show the work they have completed each day and encourage them to complete all work.

Free School Meals

I wanted to reassure Free School Meals children and families in need of additional support that a service will be provided during the period of time when schools are closed.

We are liaising with our Catering partners to provide a weekly food parcel.  Further information will be provided about this service by Friday.

I want to assure all families within our school community that we will do everything possible to continue to give your child the best education possible.

Please look after yourselves and your families at this very difficult time.

With kind regards,

Principal

Mr P Cottam

Dear Parents and Carers,

You are obviously aware of the developing situation around COVID-19. Following the recent guidelines, we have several staff rightly self-isolating, and we expect that number to increase. We have therefore made a difficult decision to partially close the school to students in Year 9 and 10, as we do not have the staffing to safely manage the school for all students.

Students in years 9 & 10 will be required to work at home from Thursday 19 March 2020 (this is likely to be for the minimum of two weeks for staff to complete their self-isolation). For students who remain in school we will endeavour to continue delivering the curriculum as planned but this may need to change based on staff absence.

NB: Students currently on work experience should continue as planned unless the employer says otherwise.

We have prioritised keeping students at school who are due to take public examinations in the near future.

As daily updates and new information is received, we will continue to update parents/carers via the school website and ParentHub.

We will review the partial closure on a regular basis and will update all parents and carers of any further changes. Should you require any further information please contact the school office on office@waterfront-that.org.uk or call 01634 505800.

Thank you for your understanding during this very difficult period.

Dear parent/carer,

RE: Potential school closure due to the spread of coronavirus

The outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) has now been classified as a pandemic and the number of confirmed cases in the UK has risen in recent weeks. We take the health and safety of our school community very seriously and, while there is currently no cause for concern at our school, we will keep you updated with any developments, including whether we will need to close.

Current guidance from the Department for Education (DfE) and Public Health England (PHE) remains that schools stay open; however, it is possible that this advice may change as the spread of coronavirus continues.  In line with the Government’s latest advice students should stay at home for 7 days if they have either a high temperature OR a new continuous cough. This is designed to help delay the spread of the virus. If a student has either of these symptoms, please notify us of their absence in the normal way. If a student does not have these symptoms, they are expected to be in school as normal.

The latest self-isolation advice may have an impact on our staffing levels at the school which means that it would not be safe for us to open.  If this occurs, we intend to partially open and will inform parents of the arrangements.

You will be informed via Parent Hub and email and advised on how long we expect the closure to last. Please check that you have provided us with your most up-to-date contact details to ensure you receive any correspondence regarding a closure. If you need to provide us with new details, please contact the school office on 01634 505800.

Arrangements for a school closure

We have prepared work for pupils to complete at home in the event of a closure. This will be uploaded to Class Charts with further instructions.  There will be a particular focus on ensuring that Year 11 and Year 13 students have sufficient resources to continue preparations for summer examinations.

Unless your child has tested positive for coronavirus, they should attend school as usual. If you think your child may have been exposed to or has coronavirus, please contact 111 and the school on 01634 505800 at the earliest opportunity.

Please note that we are not confirming that the school will close – we want to reassure you that if this were to happen, we are fully prepared to take action and have contingency plans in place.

Dear Parents/Carers,

The school is aware of concerns that have been raised by parents regarding the potential risk of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in our school.  I am writing to you to reassure you that the school has had no confirmed cases of infection or any potential risk of exposure that has required self-isolation within the staff or student population.

The academy are adhering to all advice from Public Health England and the Department of Education relating to anyone who may have travelled to an affected area over the half term.  At present we do not have any students or staff that have travelled to a category 1 area where self isolation is required.   For those that have travelled to a category 2 area where there is a much lower risk of infection they have been advised to monitor for any fever, coughing or difficulties breathing and if they have any symptoms to leave school immediately and contact NHS 111 and the schools leadership team.

At present we have absolutely no staff or students that have been potentially exposed and are displaying any symptoms and therefore the school is open as normal.

Should we have a confirmed case of infection or an incident where a member of staff or student is advised to self-isolate we will implement the necessary safeguards to minimise any risk to other members of the school community.

I appreciate that as parents this is a concerning time given the heightened media attention at present around the virus but please be assured you will be notified immediately should we have any suspected or confirmed cases of infection.
